House Hunting

It’s a bloody jungle out there in the rental world!

Uni students with rich parents, family’s and agents with the same IQ as my left shoe. The most frustrating aspect I’m finding is the condition of some of these houses. My Dad leases out a property and the amount of time, labour and money he’s put into it amazes me!

I wonder how a landlord can honestly try to rent out a house with possum urine stains all over the roof? Not quiet the scent I want to be arriving home to each night but hey, that’s just me! Old mate, special agent dick head denying all knowledge of the problem really didn’t help the situation.

Found a potential today in St Kilda, bathroom is a bit of an issue but lots of room. Feeling very grateful that I’ve got two really great friends letting me stay at their house!

Big Half American Day Out.

I was 15 the first time I went to Big Day Out. I remember catching the bus up from Traralgon all by myself.
The White Stripes were headlineing and the whole day blew my mind.
I went the following three years after that and always had such an amazing time. It was always a great summers day spent with good friends and good music.

Its been 4 years since I’ve been to one but I guess fate decided that it was time. About a month and a half ago I was having a particularly stressfull day in Perth. It was one of my last days off before I had to fly back to Melbourne and I was in such a mad rush doing everything I hadn’t even taking into consideration that I should be enjoying one of my last free days there. I stopped at a newsagent and bought a copy of Rollingstone then headed to the beach to relax for an hour or so and do some reading. One of the main articles was about how the creator of Big Day Out had to sell half his share in the business this year to an American company as the festival did so badly last year. Also to my surpise I found that I had won a ticket to any Big Day Out of my choosing. Score!

One month later, now back in Melbourne with a fresh job I had decided that I wouldn’t ask for the day off as it would be a bit cheeky having only been there for a week or so, I decided to give the ticket away to Meagz’s new boyfriend Marcus. Whilst I was keen to go I wasn’t overly devestated, it just wasn’t meant to be…or so I thought.

Today at work was busy, but just another day. I was working away in my section at work and have a nice group of Americans in with their young family. To me they just seemed like another table of tourists, little did I know that I was helping the brand new half-owners of Big Day Out decided which Tacos they wanted. On top of tipping generously, they slipped two tickets into my pocket upon leaving and that was that. Had to do a bit of negotiating at work but managed to also secure the day off also. Looks like I’m going!

NYD

‘They say how you spend your New Years is how you’ll spend the rest of your year’

As I stumbled out of Josè’s apartment scrambling to find my things and holding back a spew at the same time, I hoped that wouldn’t be the case. My phone was dead, my feet were sore and I had no idea what the time was or where the hotel that I was meeting Lisa and the gang.

Three hours and an Internet cafe later, I was sitting out the front of the Quest on Chapel waiting for my friends and the night to begin. I couldn’t  entertain the idea of alcohol without dry reaching.

The hair of the dog was looking like the only cure at this stage so whilst we waited for Lisa to finish work we ate and drank then made a quick detour to the bottle shop before heading back to our room.

Enter Lisa Ho. For those who’ve had the pleasure, you’d be aware that the party really gets going upon this elegant lady’s arrival!
The beers and sparkling were flowing to excess. Zag and a couple of old highschool mates joined us and whilst I’d like to say we spent the rest of the night partying in the hotel room without a hiccup, what good new years eve spent in a hotel room doesn’t involve a projectile vomit off the balcony?

Lisa was first to the scene cleaning the poor chap up and Shaneo and Zag took on the responsibility of popping Cam into the taxi, his night was definitely over. After watching the fireworks we made a quick excursion down Chapel street to try our luck at a few clubs, unsuccessfully.
After a quick detour at a wine bar where we polished off two bottles of Pinot, we retreated back to the hotel room to wind down.

It’s the simple things that make a good new years and if I get to spend the rest of the year spending time with my amazing friends then that’s quite alright with me. Here’s my new years resolution; blogging. Its been a while so I might be off to a bumpy start, but its a start none the less.

Happy 2013.
